Otter vs Fireflies: compare minutes, meeting length and languages

Otter and Fireflies both record and transcribe Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls, but their plans limit different things. Otter caps transcription minutes and how much of each conversation it transcribes. Fireflies caps storage and recording length instead.

The short answer

Pick by the limit you'd hit first. Otter's free plan transcribes at most 30 minutes of each conversation, while Fireflies' free plan allows recordings of up to two hours.

For languages, check what each vendor fully supports. Otter lists six transcription languages. Fireflies treats English as its primary language, with Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and more than 100 others in beta.

Plans side by side

Prices are list prices per user per month in US dollars. Both show a lower price when billed annually, and Otter also runs promotional offers. Check each pricing page before you buy.

Meeting length and minutes

Otter limits how much of each conversation it transcribes: 30 minutes on Basic, 90 on Pro and 4 hours on Business. It also counts monthly minutes, with no rollover, until Business makes meeting minutes unlimited.

Fireflies limits recording length instead: 2 hours on Free and Pro, and 3 hours on Business. Its free plan is held back by 400 minutes of storage shared across the team, not a monthly minute count.

What you can do after the call

Both offer an AI assistant that answers questions about your meetings, with allowances by plan. Otter allows 20 monthly AI Chat queries per user on Basic and 200 on Business. Fireflies gives 20 to 50 AI credits depending on the plan.

Exports differ by plan. Otter's Basic plan exports audio and text, and Pro adds PDF, Word and caption files. Fireflies lets you download transcripts, summaries and recordings from Pro up.

Which one fits

Neither pricing page tells you how accurate transcripts will be for your accents and vocabulary. Run both on a few real meetings before you commit a team.

  • Short check-ins on a free plan: Otter Basic, if most calls stay under 30 minutes.
  • Long calls on a free plan: Fireflies Free, within its storage limit.
  • Meetings in English plus German, Japanese or Chinese: Otter lists these as supported languages.
  • Meetings in many other languages: Fireflies, if its beta languages prove accurate enough in a trial.
  • Small teams: Otter Pro allows up to 5 billed users, so larger teams need Business.
  • Organizations that need SSO and SCIM: both put these on Enterprise; Otter requires at least 100 users.

Where Bridge fits

Bridge is a meeting workspace rather than only a notetaker, and you can bring existing transcripts with you.

  • Host meetings on Bridge, with live transcription and a speaker-labeled transcript, notes and recording afterwards.
  • Capture Zoom, Google Meet or Teams calls with Bridge Agent, which the host admits. Or record bot-free with the Mac desktop app.
  • Connect Fireflies to import past transcripts and sync new ones. On paid plans, upload a transcript file, such as one exported from Otter.
  • Export a transcript as PDF, Word or Markdown, or let Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini read your meetings through the Bridge MCP (paid plans).
